Yahweh Considered Himself to be Savior
“I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour” (Isaiah 43:11).
“There is no saviour beside me” (Hosea 13:4).
“And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me. Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation” (Isaiah 12:1-2).
Jesus Christ Is the Savior
“And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world” (1 John 4:14).
“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).
What the Name Jesus Means
Hebrew: Joshua, meaning Savior, or literally means “Yahweh saves” or “Yahweh-Savior”
God literally stamped upon the Messiah’s name:
- His own name – Yahweh
- His own title – Savior
Thus in His very name, Jesus is directly identified as the God of the Old Testament Scriptures. The Great I Am, the Rock, the Shepherd, the Creator – Yahweh Himself – had become our Savior; and the name “Jesus” affirms it: Yahweh-Savior.
