- Refraining ourselves in doing anything which threatens to become our master (1 Corinthians 6:12; 9:27)
- Abstaining from anything which threatens to make other Christians have doubts or lose their faith (1 Corinthians 10:23; 8:9; Romans 14:13).
Remember this: There are some terrible times coming in the last days (1 Timothy 3:1) when people say good is bad and bad is good; light is dark and dark is light; sour is sweet and sweet is sour. They think that modern times and modern activities are not specifically and directly mentioned in the Bible. Let me give you a practical example of a question nowadays: “Should a Christian be in Facebook?” This must bring us back to the two guidelines mentioned above. You could ask, “What’s wrong with Facebook?” There’s no question about the use of social networking as a tool to spread the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and its moderate and healthy use to communicate privately with distant relatives and friends (anyhow, it’s still an opportunity to bring them close to Jesus). When dealing doubtful things, here are two tests to conduct:
- Test 1: Is it uneasy to abstain from? If so, you are under the power of it.
- Test 2: Is it true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report? Is there any virtue? Is there any praise? If so, think on these things (Philippians 4:8). Are we becoming an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity? (1 Timothy 4:12)
